Gaomei Wetland

 Gaomei Wetland is located at the estuary of Dajia River in Qingshui District, Taichung City. The geology can be divided into tidal streams, grasslands, sand, gravel, mud flats and other geology. It is Taiwan’s rich and diverse wetland ecological region and has the largest The Yunlin Wancao of the ethnic group is a very difficult ecological landscape; Gaomei Wetland is in various agencies and organizations such as the Institute of Zoology of the Academia Sinica, the Department of Biology of Tunghai University, the Agriculture Bureau of Taichung City Government, and the Niu Hutou Cultural Association. Thanks to the efforts of the association and the local people, the Taichung County Government finally planned a 701.3 hectare reserve in 2005.

 Every year, a large number of migratory birds visit the Gaomei Wetland to spend the winter. It is a pilgrimage site for many bird watchers and photographers. Mei wetland has also become a popular tourist attraction in Taichung.

The estuary ecology of the Gaomei Wetland with a mixture of wet and dry conditions allows many birds, fish, crabs and other invertebrates to gather here. The "Tide Creek District" of the Gaomei Wetland provides breeding and hatching of migratory fish and a "slow flow zone". Let the fry grow up safely, the ``mudflat'' is the place where mudskippers and bigeye crabs coexist, the ``sand'' allows monk crabs to go unimpeded here, and the ``estuary'' has many innocent fiddler crabs and netted fiddler crabs. Living here leisurely; in addition to being a rich treasure, the Gaomei wetland is also a place to regulate water. It can absorb floods and then slowly release them. This not only protects the safety of coastal residents, but also reduces groundwater, soil salinization and flood disasters.
